I grew up listening to a lot of music – “oldies” mostly – The Beatles, lots of Motown and British Invasion. When I was thirteen, I heard Eddie Van Halen for the first time, and I immersed myself in the ultra-creative world of rock n’ roll. The attitude, the fashion, the writing, album artwork, concert design, and of course, the music.
It’s this love of the inherently multi-media nature of music that informs my photography, video and design work. I don’t really have a deep, metaphysical artist statement; photographing music and fashion is just so much fun for me that I can’t avoid doing it. Creating visual interpretations of the sounds of the rock n’ roll stage and translating beautiful fashions and models into music for the eyes holds so much challenge and reward, it’s incredible to be engaged in that world and with those people.
That’s why I love participating in the local creative community by helping to organize community photography events and by teaching beginning photography. Working with Juju Foto Factory in Austin, Texas, I organize monthly music events in the studio which connect local musicians with local photographers and videographers in a creative and professional environment. I also enjoy teaching students to use their cameras and make better images from clicking the shutter to post processing in Photoshop.
